Kathleen Crain of Lufkin will celebrate her 90th birthday on July 24, 2018. She has four step-children, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Ms. Crain is a native of England and has resided in the USA since 1964, spending the last 41 years in Lufkin. She has been involved with the Lufkin community since her arrival, managing the Best Western and Holiday Inn until her retirement. Kathleen also worked for the Social Security Administration in Lufkin after she retired and managed a catering company for major events. She has been very active in the community, volunteering for Memorial Medical Center, serving as an English tutor at the Adult Learning Center, vice president of the Lufkin Hotel and Motel Association, American Cancer Society, former member of the Lufkin Board of Development, Lufkin Evening Lions Club, Lufkin Altrusa Club, Huntington Garden Club, Trailblazer for the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce and a member of Angelina Senior Citizen's Center.
To date Kathleen is actively involved in helping friends and family minding homes and taking care of pets. She lives in independent senior housing and is called upon many times to help and assist her fellow neighbors. She is lovingly called Dr. Doolittle and Miss Daisy.
A celebration in her honor is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. July 28 at the Angelina County Senior Citizen's Center, 2801 Valley Ave., off Ford Chapel Road, hosted by her children, Jenny Davis and Gary Crain, both of Lufkin, Norma Clark of Mena, Arkansas, and Douglas Crain of Des Moines, Iowa. Invitations are extended through the press. No gifts please, but cards are welcome.
