Man recovering from Sunday stabbing

Emergency responders took Juan Antonio Cruz Jr. to Memorial Health System of East Texas early Sunday morning after an unidentified man stabbed Cruz during an altercation in the 400 block of South Bynum Street. Lufkin Police are continuing to investigate the aggravated assault incident. No additional information was immediately available Monday. Nursing staff treating a man for stab wounds at Memorial Health System of East Texas Sunday found drugs in his clothing. It was not immediately clear whether the incident was related to another stabbing report Sunday morning. Identity theft was reported by a man who believes a friend who prepared his taxes opened a checking account in his name and is using his personal information without permission. Assault was reported by a woman visiting relatives Sunday at an apartment in the 300 block of Pershing Avenue. The woman said she was struck in the face by a woman hiding behind a door. A man sleeping awoke Sunday to his car alarm sounding in the 800 block of Calvin Street. He discovered someone had thrown a brick though his car door window and there were pry marks where someone attempted to open it. Since his release from jail, a father has reportedly been threatening to kill the mother of his children. A car was rummaged Sunday through while parked in the 4400 block of South First Street. The owner said she awoke after staying the night at a local hotel and found someone had dug through her car glove box and center console. The Lufkin Police Department made six arrests late Sunday and early Monday. Arrests and charges included: Randy Barlow, 38, two class C warrants; Shakitha Hackney, 29, theft; Amber Chrie Whitworth, 20, assault/family violence; Rubenluna Rodriguez, 19, burglary of a motor vehicle, theft by possession and possession of a dangerous drug; Carlos Arlando Alday, 19, burglary of a motor vehicle; and Lutcher Ford, 53, failure to pay fines for public intoxication. The Hudson Police Department arrested Jamie Jo Sikes, 33, and charged her with possession of drug paraphernalia on Sunday. The Angelina County Sheriff's Office made three arrests late Sunday and early Monday. Arrests and charges included: Katherine Coplen, 39, fraudulent delivery of a controlled substance/ prescription drug, possession of a controlled substance and credit card abuse; Aaron Nathaniel Rudd, 17, public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession; and James Kenneth Rains, 21, motor vehicle inspection violation and speeding. The Texas Department of Public Safety made two arrests late Sunday and early Monday. Arrests and charges included: George Marshall, 53, second DWI; and Luis Ramos, 17, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. The Angelina County Jail housed 240 inmates as of 10 a.m. Monday.
