Howdy East Texas and happy birthday to the good ol’ U.S. of A.

What a special day we have to celebrate the creation of the greatest country in history. For more than 240 years, our great nation has stood for liberty and justice for all, thanks to men and women who were willing to take a stand, fight and die to preserve those principles. I hope you’re planning to take time to celebrate and to be thankful that God blessed us with living in America.

If you don’t have any specific plans for today, make sure you come see us at the VFW. We’re serving an all-American meal of hotdogs and hamburgers from 1-2 p.m. Then, dance your bobby socks off to the most memorable ‘50s dancing tunes courtesy of DJ Debbie Richardson from 2-6 p.m. Fifteen dollars covers lunch and the dance. We’ll have a cash bar, raffles, 50/50 and other fun, as well. Top your afternoon off with homemade desserts sold by our Post Auxiliary.

In other exciting news, our post is proud to become a member of the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce. With support from the Chamber, Post 1836 will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. July 30 and an open house all day.

Have you ever wondered what the inside of our Post looks like? Looking for a venue to host a wedding or party, but not sure what to expect at our facility? Do you assume the VFW is just a smoke-filled bar? Well, we’d love for you to drop by and take a look around that day. You’re free to stop by at any time, to be honest, but we’ll throw in a guided tour and some refreshments if you come on our special day. We’ve got a beautiful building and grounds and we’re ready to show it off.

Don’t forget, Post Meetings are the second Monday at 7 p.m.

Catch us on Facebook for a full calendar of upcoming events @lufkinvfw (the one with the Cross of Malta Emblem) or give us a call at 634-4133.

Have a good one.
