Tuesday morning update from Lufkin Police spokesman Det. JB Smith: "Crime Stoppers of Lufkin received numerous anonymous tips identifying the four suspects in the arson incident at R&R Washateria. Investigators are working to verify the anonymously-provided information and, once verified, obtain arrest warrants but, because at least one of the identified suspects is a juvenile, the names of all suspects must be withheld."
Lufkin Police and Fire investigators are looking for four Hispanic men believed responsible for setting a washateria fire early Saturday morning on Paul Avenue.
According to Lufkin Asst. Fire Marshal Capt. Ozzie Jarman, security cameras at R&R Washateria at 1318 Paul Ave. captured images of the four men, who appear to be in their late teens to early 20s, dousing the business with lighter fluid. After lighting the building on fire, the men fled the scene.
Firefighter/paramedics responding to a medical call noticed smoke inside the 24-hour washateria as they were driving by around 5:35 a.m. and stopped to investigate. Upon entering the building, they found multiple areas where fires had been set. The fires were quickly extinguished with no major damage to the building, Jarman said. Two large plate glass windows were also broken out of the building.
Lufkin Fire and Lufkin Police are collaborating on the investigation. Anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 639-TIPS. All calls are confidential and you never have to give your name.
