An 18-wheeler crash closed off the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 59 just north of Diboll as the vehicle obstructed traffic.
The crash was reported about 1:25 p.m. Friday afternoon on U.S. 59 near FM 2497. It appears the one-vehicle accident occurred after the 18-wheeler, which was traveling in the southbound lane of U.S. 59, lost its drive shaft, authorities on the scene said. This caused the driver to lose control, and the truck veered over the median into the northbound lane as the logs rolled onto and over the northbound lane of the roadway.
Authorities on the scene said no one was injured in the crash, however, the truck’s driver, who has not been identified, was taken to an area hospital for a check-up. No one else was involved in the crash.
Diboll police diverted traffic from the northbound lane of U.S. 59 to the outside southbound lane for a brief stretch where the crash occurred as crews worked to clear the scene. In addition to the Diboll Police Department, the Diboll Volunteer Fire Department, Lufkin Fire Department and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper responded to the scene.
