Lufkin Police officers on Wednesday night searched the city’s Englewood subdivision for someone who apparently tried to break into homes on three different streets.
Lt. Alton Lenderman said the department was investigating what appeared to be attempted burglaries on Linkwood Drive, Maplewood Drive and Lost Pines Circle. At one home, someone kicked in a door but did not enter; at another, someone pulled the phone lines to a home, Lenderman said.
The police department had no suspect information because nobody reported seeing a suspicious person, Lenderman said, so it was not immediately clear whether the crimes were related to a series of similar burglary attempts in Lufkin in past months.
“Is it the same person we’ve had some problems with before? I don’t know,” he said.
Lenderman said the police department is actively patrolling Lufkin neighborhoods but will need the public’s help to catch burglars or other criminals.
“What we really want everybody to do is don’t hesitate calling us, especially in these neighborhoods, if you see suspicious vehicles, suspicious people walking or anything that arouses your suspicion,” he said. “And if you have a burglary or anything like that, call 911. The sooner we can get here, the sooner we can get on it.”
