Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation on Monday will be moving into Phase II of its road-widening project on U.S. Highway 69 south, according to Rhonda Oaks, the public information officer for TxDOT’s Lufkin district.

Work on northbound lane will continue from FM 844 to FM 1270 as crews install drainage structures and construct bridge sub-structures. Drill shafts and columns also are being constructed for the overpass at state Highway 63.

In addition, dirt and structure work for the future southbound Shawnee Creek Bridge continues. This project is designed to widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway.

Oaks said motorists should expect some intermittent delays in some areas or shoulder closures, as well as large trucks entering and exiting the roadway to and from the work areas.

Elsewhere on U.S. 69, crews are monitoring vegetation establishment south of Huntington to FM 844. North of Lufkin on the highway, work to upgrade metal beam guardrail to design standards will continue from Loop 287 to the Cherokee County line.

■ TxDOT crews also will be working in multiple locations on U.S. Highway 59, Oaks said.

Work is scheduled to continue resurfacing the roadway by applying a permeable friction course from Whitehouse Drive to FM 2497 near Diboll. Motorists should expect delays.

In addition, crews will upgrade metal beam guardrails from Loop 287 to the Polk County line and repair surfaces in various locations.

■ On state Highway 147, crews are working on cross drainage structures, driveway safety end treatments and culverts near side roads from FM 3123 to FM 2109.

■ On FM 324 crews are working on cross structures and driveways from state Highway 94 to U.S. 59.

■ On FM 326 and FM 842 crews are working on base repair in various locations.
