A homeless man reportedly scammed a church by changing a purchase order they gave him for fuel from $15 to $115.

The church later learned of the alleged crime, finding out he had gotten fuel for his vehicle and then received the rest of the money back in cash.

A man came to the Lufkin Police lobby Tuesday to report that his girlfriend had backed into him with a vehicle Friday morning.

After leaving her home for only 15 to 20 minutes around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 900 block of Sparrow Lane, a woman returned to find her washer, dryer, mini fridge, cooler and a toolbox containing $300 in tools stolen from her garage. She told police when she left, her garage door was open and the lights were off.  

A man’s 2001 Jaguar, reported stolen more than a week ago, was recovered in Houston Tuesday. The man said he knows the woman who took the vehicle and told police he does not wish to press charges.

An apartment in the 2100 block of South First Street was reportedly “trashed” by a former tenant after they were evicted, according to a police report filed by the apartment manager.

Two vehicles were reportedly broken into Tuesday in the 400 block of South Third Street.

A woman reported being threatened by a man she knows Tuesday in the 100 block East Denman Avenue.

Three Interstate batteries were reportedly stolen off a truck last weekend in the 2700 block of Spence Street.

A contractor reported finding glass broken in a vacant building Tuesday in the 100 block of North First Street.

Unauthorized charges were reportedly made on a person’s account Tuesday in the 200 block of South First Street.

A purse was reportedly stolen from an unlocked vehicle Tuesday in the 3200 block of Old Union Road.

The Lufkin Police Department made four arrests late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Arrests and charges included: Royce Jones, 18, theft; Travis Young, 23, warrants; Williams Sims, 25, assault/family violence; and Jerry Cole, 44, no insurance on a commercial vehicle.

The Angelina County Sheriff’s Office made four arrests late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Arrests and charges included: Steven Nelson, 44, bench warrant; Chasity Griffith, 33, order of confinement; Deidra Hamel, 26, possession of drug paraphernalia; and Ernest Maldanado, 19, possession of a controlled substance and seven warrants.

The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Lindsey Gilmore, 26, on three Class C warrants Tuesday.

The Angelina County Pct. 1 Constable arrested Leginald Malone, 28, on charges of no insurance and no driver’s license Tuesday.

The Angelina County Jail housed 227 inmates as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.
