A Lufkin man was arrested Monday night on his second driving while intoxicated charge after running his car into a home in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Drive while high on PCP.
Sam Johnson III, 37, admitted to officers he was under the influence of PCP at the time of the wreck and that he had consumed two or three beers earlier in the day, according to a Lufkin Police Department report. An officer on scene recognized Johnson, as the officer had arrested him for public intoxication Sunday night. At that time, Johnson was also allegedly high on PCP and became “irate with officers.”
On Sunday night, officers received a report of someone asleep in a truck on Keltys Street, and they arrived to find Johnson “passed out” with his truck blocking the street, according to the Lufkin Police Department’s previous report.
Johnson posted a $500 bond for the public intoxication charge, according to county records. As of Tuesday morning, he remained in Angelina County Jail on a $1,500 bond for the DWI charge.
Johnson’s criminal history in Angelina County dates back to 2004 with charges of failure to appear, aggravated perjury, resisting arrest, theft, burglary of a vehicle and DWI, according to county records.
