A memorial service to celebrate the life of Judy Waters Temple, 73, of Lufkin, will be held at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Lufkin, on Saturday, July 13th at 2 PM. All who knew Judy and were touched by her life are invited to attend and wear a touch of red as it was her favorite color. The memorial will be preceded by a private burial at Reese Cemetery near Jacksonville, TX.
Judy was born May 19th, 1946 in Atlanta, Texas in the midst of a tornado to the late Maxine (Mac) McDow Waters and Royce Edwin Waters. She died June 29th, 2019 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston surrounded by family after a short, but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Judy was raised in Jacksonville, TX, where she met and married the love of her life, Ronnie Temple. They made their life and raised their family in the Lufkin community. After running a trio of package stores with her husband Ronnie, Judy served for many years as both the Children’s Ministry Coordinator at St. Cyprian’s Church and the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Angelina County. Judy, or Miss Judy, as she was affectionately known by the children of her church, was known as a servant-hearted woman who would help anyone in need and who especially loved teaching children about the Good News of Jesus, as evidenced by her 35+ years of teaching Sunday School and VBS at her church.
Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronnie Lynn Temple, of Lufkin, her daughter Rhonda Temple of Dallas and her son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Shannon Temple, also of Dallas. Judy’s greatest joy was being called “JuJu” by her three granddaughters: Macy, Layne, and Anna Reese Temple, all of Dallas. She is also survived by her aunt, Helen McDow Phillips of Longview, and her sister-in-law Patricia Griggs Temple of Jacksonville, as well as many close friends and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to GODTEL Ministries of Lufkin, St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church of Lufkin or MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston.
