Beamon Buckner Scogin

Services for Beamon Buckner Scogin, 89, of Huntington, will be at 1:00 P.M, Thursday, May 23, 2019, in the chapel of Gipson Funeral Home.

Mr. Scogin was born to the late D.W and Florence (Little) Scogin on March 4, 1930 in Appleby, Texas and passed away May 20, 2019 in Lufkin.

He was a proud veteran who served his country in the U.S Army.

Mr. Scogin attended schools in Cedar Bluff, Garrison and Orange and later obtained his GED. He gathered a great part of his education on the road in an 18-wheeler. He has traveled to every state in the United States mainland, through every city, small or large, in the United States, as well as many in Canada, picking up or delivering a load of anything except for gasoline or logs. As long as the wheels would roll, he would drive.

Mr. Beamon was a member of Chestnut Drive Baptist Church, where he loved attending. He never wanted to miss any gathering with family or friends. He told interesting stories, and was rarely without a smile or a laugh. He drove for Keller in Woodville, Great Western Trucking in Lufkin, and later retired from Texas Foundry, then went on to drive for ReBanda Trucking in California where he transported sound equipment for Country and Rock-and-Roll entertainers. He went on tour with ZZ Top, which became the best job he ever had.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheila; his children, Leslie and husband Patrick Richards of Lufkin, Patricia Ann and husband W.C Scroggins of Garrison, Tim Scogin of California, and Randy and wife Eileen Birch of Huntington; sister in law, Christal Shaw of Nacogdoches; the mother of his children, Bettie Brumley Westbrook of Lufkin; and his brother, Jimmy Don Scogin.

Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings Mildred Dews, Fairy Partin, Reba Moore, David Weldon; Raymond, Wesley, and Annie, Claudie, and D.H Scogin; mother in law, Mary Denman Russell; and sons in law, Philip Campbell and Johnny Garrett.
