EDITORIAL: Delay on Dunes Sagebrush Lizard buys some time, but legal attack is unreasonable

The Permian Basin in West Texas and eastern New Mexico currently produces about one million barrels of oil a day, 20 percent of our lower 48 states’ production. It contains about 80 percent of Texas reserves still untapped under the ground. That number may shrink due to new fields discovered in South Texas, but suffice to say Texas and our country depend on the Permian Basin for a substantial part of domestic energy production.
