The Lufkin News

Many outraged by publicity stunt

Posted: Sunday, September 2, 2012 12:15 am

Some Nacogdoches County landowners and local anglers say they feel betrayed by Nacogdoches County Commissioners after learning that their elected officials allowed a popular Texas bass fishing show early access to Lake Naconiche to film television footage several days prior to the lake’s official opening date.

Roughly 50 years on the books, the new 692-acre impoundment finally opened to the public for fishing and boating on Sept. 1. The county opted to keep the lake closed to fishing and boating until that date under the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s water safety code.
