ISLAMORADA, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended a search for an elderly man who went missing in the waters off Islamorada in the Florida Keys.

The agency identified the man as Paul James, 77. The Coast Guard was alerted on Monday that a 30-foot (9-meter) Grady-White boat near Islamorada was sending distress signals.

Crews searched more than 3,000 square miles (7,770 square kilometers) for about 60 hours with boats and helicopters.

The agency said late Thursday it had decided to call off the search.
