DEAR JEFF: I loaned my girlfriend’s brother some money, and it has been almost six months. He won’t pay me back. At the time I loaned it, my girlfriend promised me she would pay the money back if her brother did not.

You can probably see where this is going — the girlfriend and I broke up, and she now says she isn’t responsible for paying her brother’s loan back. It’s almost $3,000. Can I do anything? Neither one of them signed anything — I just trusted them to pay me back. Thanks, “It’s Not Me — It’s You”
