October is the month we were all waiting for during the hot summer. The cool morning temperatures and azure blue skies lift everyone’s spirits. It is like a second spring for gardeners. Perennials that have languished in the heat are revived. Native fall bloomers are putting on a show while providing food and nectar for butterflies and bees as they prepare for the winter.

Colors associated with autumn are orange and yellow, as seen in the artificial flower departments of stores. However, the color of autumn in East Texas is purple and yellow.
