One man died and another is in serious condition after two separate shooting incidents in Nacogdoches Saturday, according to Dan Taravella, assistant chief of police for the Nacogdoches Police Department.

Nacogdoches police were called to a report of gunshots fired in the 1800 block of Virginia Avenue Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers found a man beside the home’s garage suffering from a gunshot wound, Taravella said.

Officers performed first aid on the subject, but he later died after being taken to a local hospital, according to Taravella.

Officers learned there had been an argument involving the victim and another man who fled after the shooting, Taravella said.

While investigating that incident, officers were called to an apartment complex at 1630 Cardinal St. in reference to a man in the parking lot who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital and is listed in serious condition, according to Taravella.

The two incidents are being investigated, and officers are trying to determine whether they are connected. Officers will be at both scenes for several more hours.

Nacogdoches police will release more information as it becomes available.
