Heads bow as LaTonia Sanders lifts her hand in prayer to bless all gathered at Kiwanis Park on Thanksgiving Day.

The pavilion at Kiwanis Park was filled with people in high spirits Thursday morning as volunteers served meals to those in need at the fifth annual Thanksgiving in the Park.

Thanksgiving in the Park started when a friend of Greg Sims’ — who started the event in 2017 —was trying to think of something to do with all of the food he had left over after Thanksgiving. He talked about bringing the leftovers to the homeless, and Sims came up with the idea to provide food for not just the homeless but anybody who needs a place to go on Thanksgiving.
