It’s full steam ahead for Lufkin Forward, as the Lufkin City Council on Tuesday authorized city manager Bruce Green to negotiate terms and enter into a contract for professional design services with Pape-Dawson Engineers for the project.

The project was first broached by the council in October 2020 in an attempt by the Lufkin Economic Development Corporation to further revitalize downtown Lufkin. The city partnered with Asakura Robinson, an architectural firm known nationwide for revisioning cultural centers, and began to work with residents on what they would like to see downtown.
