Community members worked together in an impressive assembly line to construct boxes, fill them with food and send them out to families in need at the Lufkin Parks & Recreation Center Saturday morning.

Volunteers load boxes Saturday during the annual Community Food Drive.

The Community Food Drive began in 1999 when the Rev. Bettie Kennedy partnered with numerous churches, businesses and individuals to provide Thanksgiving food baskets to East Texas families — although she had been feeding those in need for a lot longer than that, said her daughter, Bettell Lewis Benham.
