Jail meeting

With an anticipated $16 million in government funds to spend, local officials gathered Tuesday afternoon to discuss options to potentially address Angelina County’s overcrowded jail and its short-staffed district attorney’s office.

During the last couple years, COVID-19 and its related mandates and protocols interrupted systems across the country, placing an even larger burden on certain infrastructures on which communities rely — including the criminal justice system. But while many parts of the criminal justice system halted, crime itself did not.
