Barbara Trout Corbett’s legacy at Ellen Trout Zoo will live on after the Lufkin City Council on Tuesday approved naming the hippopotamus exhibit the “Barbara Trout Corbett Hippoquarium.”

Corbett was the granddaughter of Walter Trout, founder of the Ellen Trout Zoo, and the great-granddaughter of Ellen Trout, namesake of the zoo. When Corbett was 9 years old, she cut the ribbon that officially opened the zoo on June 17, 1967, and remained heavily involved with Ellen Trout Zoo until she died this past July.
