The city of Lufkin’s application for a Supplemental Environmental Project stemming from a sewage discharge that impacted Hurricane Creek in 2020 is currently under review, according to a commission enforcement report and communications specialist Gary Rasp.

A broken sewer tap at a 6-inch line behind Chestnut Village II shopping center discharged untreated sewage into a tributary of the creek in 2020, killing 63 fish. The city was fined $6,000 by the TCEQ for the infraction.
