Officers arrested a Lufkin man May 12 after he hit and choked his wife in an intoxicated rage at their home before driving away with their child in the back passenger seat of his truck with both passenger side doors open, according to a Lufkin police report.

John Brady Barnett, 39, of Lufkin, was booked in at the Angelina County Jail after the alleged incident on charges of assault of a family/household member impeding breath/circulation, abandoning/endangering a child by intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing criminal neglect, and resisting arrest, search or transport. He was released May 14 on a collective $4,500 bond.
