East Texans could potentially find a veritable periodic table of elements in Sam Rayburn Reservoir if the Railroad Commission of Texas allows a Montana-based oil company to build a waste disposal facility near the headwaters of the reservoir.

The PA Prospect-Oil and Gas Waste Facility is expected to consist of 256.7 acres on both sides of state Highway 103. The facility will be used to store, handle, treat and dispose of non-hazardous oil and gas waste, according to an application the company filed with the commission in November 2019. Chinquapin Creek, which feeds into the reservoir, runs through the proposed site.
